The title 'Big Ama' originates from Torres Strait Islander Tribes, signifying the cultural responsibility of caretaking, support, advocacy, and guidance from the eldest son's wife/partner. The Big Ama naturally and happily assumes the maternal role of fostering the younger Tribemates. Big Ama is a mother, aunt, carer, friend, and someone you'll always have in your corner.
